If you do not already have a habit of gathering daily manna the first thing in the morning (we can look at the example given to us in Exodus 16 and find the pattern for make it a habit. Establish your life and your schedule to allow you the necessary time to do your daily collection first thing every morning to give you the strength to make it through the day. And remember that today’s manna will not be sufficient for tomorrow; tomorrow’s manna must be collected tomorrow morning. Sunday, March 24, 2019
Today's Passage : Today's Passage:Noah and the Flood [Part 4] Bible Verse:Genesis 8:1-14 "But God remembered Noah and all the beasts and all the livestock that were with him in the ark. And God made a wind blow over the earth, and the waters subsided. The fountains of the deep and the windows of the heavens were closed, the rain from the heavens was restrained, and the waters receded from the earth continually. At the end of 150 days the waters had abated, and in the seventh month, on the seventeenth day of the month, the ark came to rest on the mountains of Ararat. And the waters continued to abate until the tenth month; in the tenth month, on the first day of the month, the tops of the mountains were seen. At the end of forty days Noah opened the window of the ark that he had made and sent forth a raven. It went to and fro until the waters were dried up from the earth. Then he sent forth a dove from him, to see if the waters had subsided from the face of the ground. But the dove found no place to set her foot, and she returned to him to the ark, for the waters were still on the face of the whole earth. So he put out his hand and took her and brought her into the ark with him. He waited another seven days, and again he sent forth the dove out of the ark. And the dove came back to him in the evening, and behold, in her mouth was a freshly plucked olive leaf. So Noah knew that the waters had subsided from the earth. Then he waited another seven days and sent forth the dove, and she did not return to him anymore. In the six hundred and first year, in the first month, the first day of the month, the waters were dried from off the earth. And Noah removed the covering of the ark and looked, and behold, the face of the ground was dry. In the second month, on the twenty-seventh day of the month, the earth had dried out. " Message:
While it is a mistake to read meanings into Scripture, it is hard not to see the dove and the raven as symbolic. Ravens are probably the most intelligent of birds (outside of parrot species). They are aggressive and eat small animals. They are clever tricksters. Doves, on the other hand, are constantly used as a symbol of peace in the Bible.
Jesus and dove
Thus, one might read the use of the two species of birds in Christian terms. When Noah sends out the raven, he is testing the world with intelligence, craftiness, and the bird dies. God might be seen to reject the raven. When the dove is first sent out, it returns. The world is not ready for peace, or even more symbolically, for the phenomenon of Christ and the Holy Spirit. When it is sent out the second time, it returns holding another symbol of peace in its feet, an olive branch.
We certainly get a message, here, that God works in His own time. The world has not yet been subdued sufficiently to be the place where God wants to plant peace, or His message of peace in the person of His son or His Holy Spirit. God must, frankly, destroy the great majority of humanity to prepare the few remaining souls for Christ.
Note well, the Bible does not say this. Interpretation (or hidden meaning) must always be tested against other Scripture. But this reading of today’s verses seems to fit perfectly with the message of the New Testament.
Meditation : Prayer : Now may the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the eternal high priest himself, the Son of God Jesus Christ, build up myself, and all Christians, in faith and truth, and in all gentleness and in all freedom from anger and forbearance and steadfastness and patient endurance and purity......Amen |
