If you do not already have a habit of gathering daily manna the first thing in the morning (we can look at the example given to us in Exodus 16 and find the pattern for make it a habit. Establish your life and your schedule to allow you the necessary time to do your daily collection first thing every morning to give you the strength to make it through the day. And remember that today’s manna will not be sufficient for tomorrow; tomorrow’s manna must be collected tomorrow morning. Thursday, June 20, 2019
Today's Passage : Today's Passage:Paul’s Farewell to the Ephesian Elders [2] Bible Verse :Acts 20:25-31 "And now, behold, I know that none of you among whom I have gone about proclaiming the kingdom will see my face again. Therefore I testify to you this day that I am innocent of the blood of all, for I did not shrink from declaring to you the whole counsel of God. Pay careful attention to yourselves and to all the flock, in which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to care for the church of God, which he obtained with his own blood. I know that after my departure fierce wolves will come in among you, not sparing the flock; and from among your own selves will arise men speaking twisted things, to draw away the disciples after them. Therefore be alert, remembering that for three years I did not cease night or day to admonish every one with tears." Message:
Paul’s farewell is a heartfelt and emotional goodbye. He has lived with or near these people, in a small community, for three years. Paul, who must be in his 50’s by now, tells them he will not see them again. We can guess at least two reasons for this. First, he has called them to meet him in Miletus; perhaps Ephesus has become too dangerous for him to return there. Second, he is being led by the Holy Spirit to go to Jerusalem, which is definitely a dangerous place for him. He anticipates trouble.
We get another little insight into how Paul converted people; he says that he warned them “with tears”. Paul was a “people person”; his attempts to save souls involved complete direct contact with others, for however long it took, with great emotional involvement. He was trying to save lives one at a time.
One of the warnings he gives is particularly appropriate to later times: Men from their Christian communities will twist the truth, because they want believers to follow them. Unfortunately, this problem is constant. Men and women in every generation twist the Bible and gather followers, for their personal pride and worldly gain. The greatest protection we have for this is to read the Bible, to know the Bible, and to refuse to ignore the plain meaning of important passages.
Meditation : Prayer : May God the Father bless us; may Christ take care of us; the Holy Ghost enlighten us all the days of our life. The Lord be our defender and keeper of body and soul, both now and for ever, to the ages of ages.......Amen |
