If you do not already have a habit of gathering daily manna the first thing in the morning (we can look at the example given to us in Exodus 16 and find the pattern for make it a habit. Establish your life and your schedule to allow you the necessary time to do your daily collection first thing every morning to give you the strength to make it through the day. And remember that today’s manna will not be sufficient for tomorrow; tomorrow’s manna must be collected tomorrow morning. Monday, June 3, 2019
Today's Passage : Today's Passage:Faith Bible Verse :Hebrews 11:1-16 "Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. For by it the people of old received their commendation. By faith we understand that the universe was created by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things that are visible. By faith Abel offered to God a more acceptable sacrifice than Cain, through which he was commended as righteous, God commending him by accepting his gifts. And through his faith, though he died, he still speaks. By faith Enoch was taken up so that he should not see death, and he was not found, because God had taken him. Now before he was taken he was commended as having pleased God. And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him. By faith Noah, being warned by God concerning events as yet unseen, in reverent fear constructed an ark for the saving of his household. By this he condemned the world and became an heir of the righteousness that comes by faith. By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to a place that he was to receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going. By faith he went to live in the land of promise, as in a foreign land, living in tents with Isaac and Jacob, heirs with him of the same promise. For he was looking forward to the city that has foundations, whose designer and builder is God. By faith Sarah herself received power to conceive, even when she was past the age, since she considered him faithful who had promised. Therefore from one man, and him as good as dead, were born descendants as many as the stars of heaven and as many as the innumerable grains of sand by the seashore. These all died in faith, not having received the things promised, but having seen them and greeted them from afar, and having acknowledged that they were strangers and exiles on the earth. For people who speak thus make it clear that they are seeking a homeland. If they had been thinking of that land from which they had gone out, they would have had opportunity to return. But as it is, they desire a better country, that is, a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for he has prepared for them a city. " Message:
Faith is the hardest thing for me, personally, to address in my own life. It is a struggle many times for the most dedicated of Christians, as was shown in Mother Theresa’s diaries, where she wrote of her inner struggles with faith. We have to take the word of people we have never met and will never meet (at least in this life), people whose testimony was written down thousands of years ago.
It is hard to base our lives, our morals, our thoughts and our actions on something that we have not seen and will never see while we are alive on Earth. Some people look for a sign from God in making decisions; but God does not give signs on demand. Some people do experience the Holy Spirit in their lives, and this sustains them in their faith, but others have doubts in this regard.
One recourse that Paul takes, in the lesson today, is to look back at the lives of those who lived in faith but did not see their reward until after their death. It is certainly easy to see the fruit of the promise given to Abraham. Christians are Abraham’s descendants, and they number in the billions, both the living and those who have died over the course of the last 2,000 years. Of their impact on the world, there can be no doubt. The fulfillment of God’s promise to Abraham is a tangible fact.
Of course, we do not base our faith on earthly successes. The most devout Christians seem to lead lives of simplicity and, often, poverty. We base our faith on the Holy Spirit and the written record of God’s Word to us. The skeptic might say, “If God wants us to believe in Him, why doesn’t He give us a sign.” But I say, why should He need to send Christ more than once?
Meditation : Prayer : Now, to God the Father, who first loved us, and made us accepted in the Beloved; to God the Son, who loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood; to God the Holy Ghost, who sheddeth the love of God abroad in our hearts, be all love and all glory in time and to all eternity.........Amen |
