If you do not already have a habit of gathering daily manna the first thing in the morning (we can look at the example given to us in Exodus 16 and find the pattern for make it a habit. Establish your life and your schedule to allow you the necessary time to do your daily collection first thing every morning to give you the strength to make it through the day. And remember that today’s manna will not be sufficient for tomorrow; tomorrow’s manna must be collected tomorrow morning. Monday, May 27, 2019

Beauty, fashion,
celebrity, and diamonds.
Some (most?) people, even if they are Christians and are trying to heed the Word, simply cannot break their greed for earthly possessions. It becomes an obsession. We are probably all guilty of this to some degree and could do better. Sometimes we buy something unnecessary just for fun: A shiny new car, an expensive pair of shoes, a cool mobile internet device. And we don’t criticize ourselves or get criticized by other people for it (unless perhaps we live in a community where there is a high level of sensitivity to unneeded earthly goods, such as the Amish). In fact, we often get positive reinforcement from other people admiring our new toys.
But have no doubt, these little “guilty pleasures” steer us away from God. Let us think about the last time we bought something we didn’t need and let it form the basis of a meditation on our relationship with God, and how much joy we might be taking, instead, from the Holy Spirit.
Most Christians are quite sensitive to pornography and abhor it. Yes, how many feel the same way about Vogue magazine, or Town and Country? Yet these are every bit as anti-Christian as a sex site. They are pornography for vanity and greed.
Meditation : Prayer : Lord, pour your love into my heart, that I may love you above all things, and my neighbors as myself. Through Christ our Lord.......Amen |
