Friend,
If you do not already have a habit of gathering daily manna the first thing in the morning (we can look at the example given to us in Exodus 16 and find the pattern for make it a habit. Establish your life and your schedule to allow you the necessary time to do your daily collection first thing every morning to give you the strength to make it through the day. And remember that today’s manna will not be sufficient for tomorrow; tomorrow’s manna must be collected tomorrow morning. Friday, February 15, 2019
Today's Passage : Today's Passage:The Believers Pray for Boldness Bible Verse:Acts 4:23-31 "When they [Peter and John] were released, they went to their friends and reported what the chief priests and the elders had said to them. And when they heard it, they lifted their voices together to God and said, “Sovereign Lord, who made the heaven and the earth and the sea and everything in them, who through the mouth of our father David, your servant, said by the Holy Spirit, Why did the Gentiles rage, and the peoples plot in vain? The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers were gathered together, against the Lord and against his Anointed’— for truly in this city there were gathered together against your holy servant Jesus, whom you anointed, both Herod and Pontius Pilate, along with the Gentiles and the peoples of Israel, to do whatever your hand and your plan had predestined to take place. And now, Lord, look upon their threats and grant to your servants to continue to speak your word with all boldness, while you stretch out your hand to heal, and signs and wonders are performed through the name of your holy servant Jesus.” And when they had prayed, the place in which they were gathered together was shaken, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and continued to speak the word of God with boldness." Peter and John have just been threatened by the Sanhedrin, in a trial that could have sentenced them to death; they were told not to preach the word of Christ, with the implication that they might be executed, as Jesus himself had been.
They interpret the threat in the light of prophecy, a very specific one made in Psalm 2. It is commonly understood that the “Gentiles” [more literally translated “the nations”] refer to non-Jewish nations, while “the peoples” refer to the Jews themselves. The psalm predicts exactly what is beginning to happen: the authorities have taken a stand against the Messiah. In the future, this opposition will spread from Judea throughout the earth, and Christians will be martyred in every land for their beliefs.
They pray for the fortitude to speak Christ’s word with confidence; not confidence that they will win over the governments of earth, because the psalm states that the nations will stand against them, but confidence in a victory greater than possible among human institutions. And their prayer is answered. They are given heart, through the Holy Spirit, to spread Christ’s word against all opposition, without fear.
Their fearlessness is not freedom from fear of harm from other men; they know they will be scorned, reviled, imprisoned, and perhaps even killed. Rather, their courage comes from the certainty that their sacrifice and work is God's will. Their sacrifice will be rewarded for all eternity, and have already been rewarded by the grace of Christ. And unlike those who do not hear the word and follow Christ, they will be granted perfect peace and eternal life in God’s presence.
Meditation : Prayer : And now, as a little child, let me abide in you all this day, oh Christ, so that when you appear I may have confidence and not shrink from you in shame at your coming. For I know that you are righteous, and I am sure that I will be made righteous only by my life in you........Amen |
