If you do not already have a habit of gathering daily manna the first thing in the morning (we can look at the example given to us in Exodus 16 and find the pattern for make it a habit. Establish your life and your schedule to allow you the necessary time to do your daily collection first thing every morning to give you the strength to make it through the day. And remember that today’s manna will not be sufficient for tomorrow; tomorrow’s manna must be collected tomorrow morning. Wednesday, January 30, 2019
Today's Passage : Today's Passage:Paul’s Sermon [3] Bible Verse:Acts 2:32-39 "“This Jesus God raised up, and of that we all are witnesses. Being therefore exalted at the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, he has poured out this that you yourselves are seeing and hearing. For David did not ascend into the heavens, but he himself says, The Lord said to my Lord, “Sit at my right hand, until I make your enemies your footstool.’ Let all the house of Israel therefore know for certain that God has made him both Lord and Christ, this Jesus whom you crucified.” Now when they heard this they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?” And Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. For the promise is for you and for your children and for all who are far off, everyone whom the Lord our God calls to himself.” " Message:
Alarge crowd has gathered, probably amused and certainly perplexed by the odd actions occurring around the building where the “upper room” was located. The people who had been blessed—Peter, the apostles, and approximately 100 other disciples—have gone out into the street at some point. Having given the crowd a long introduction, with citation to the Old Testament, Peter here gets to the “nitty-gritty” of his message.
When they are told that they have crucified a man whom God had sent, the crowd are “cut to the heart.” Peter has convinced them that they have offended God, and they are ashamed and terrified. They beg Peter and the apostles to tell them what to do. Peter tells them to be baptized in Jesus’ name; only in this way can they be cleansed of their sins, especially of the sin of killing the Christ.
Peter has wasted no time in carrying out his mission, the mission Jesus left him. He is openly preaching that the crowd should become followers of a man who has recently been convicted of heresy and suffered execution for it. He is either going to create a backlash against the Jewish authorities for their murder of Jesus, or die trying.
If we remember back to the entirety of any of the Gospels, we see Peter finally becoming the man whom Jesus meant him to be. His actions are the consummation, the realization, of three years of painful training. He has been fully prepared and now, at the most opportune moment, he picks up the mantle of Christ, fully knowing it will cause his death, and puts it on his shoulders without hesitation. It is Peter who first dares to tell the world about the risen Christ.
Meditation : Prayer : I pray that I may be blessed every step of my path this day by the great God of light. May your sun shine upon me; as the moon moves the tide, may your Spirit move my emotions with every grace and magic; may my heart sing with the voice of your angels and my hearth be warm; and may this and every blessed day You have given me be filled with joy......Amen. |
