If you do not already have a habit of gathering daily manna the first thing in the morning (we can look at the example given to us in Exodus 16 and find the pattern for make it a habit. Establish your life and your schedule to allow you the necessary time to do your daily collection first thing every morning to give you the strength to make it through the day. And remember that today’s manna will not be sufficient for tomorrow; tomorrow’s manna must be collected tomorrow morning. Friday, November 16, 2018

Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword? As it is written, “For your sake we are being killed all the day long; we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered.” No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. In the preceding verses, Paul taught that no force on earth would be able to oppose Christianity, even though the enemies of Christ might create all kinds of suffering for those who believed in him. Today, he addresses a related theme, which is the strength of Christian faith in the face of earthly tribulation.
Once we have gained faith in Christ and received the Holy Spirit, there is no power in heaven or earth that can take it away from us. People who see life as something that exists only in their bodies, their possessions, and their pride, believe that humans are entirely corruptible. Because they see nothing other than their own skin, they think that others are the same way; they think that faith in God is nonsense that can be defeated by the instruments of the world.
But Paul has seen it all. He has spent his adult life in constant danger; he has been starved, beaten, imprisoned, chastised, stoned and left for dead. And yet, all of this could not dent his faith. In fact, none of them could stop him from standing up in public, anywhere at any time, no matter what the danger, and preaching the Word of Christ.
So he knows for a fact: There is nothing outside of us that can ever defeat the faith within us. Hold fast to your faith, he says, because the world can never take it away from you. And be vigilant, because “Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.” (1 Peter 5:8.)
Meditation : Prayer : May it please you, my good Lord, that there may come a day when I can repay a little of my great debt to you. O Jesus, strengthen my soul, you who are good above all good; and since you have inclined my soul in this way, show me how I may act for you, whatever it may cost, O Lord. Here is my life, my honor and my will; I have given them all to you and they are yours: use me to do whatever you want.....Amen |
