Friend,
If you do not already have a habit of gathering daily manna the first thing in the morning (we can look at the example given to us in Exodus 16 and find the pattern for collecting daily manna), make it a habit. Establish your life and your schedule to allow you the necessary time to do your daily collection first thing every morning to give you the strength to make it through the day. And remember that today’s manna will not be sufficient for tomorrow; tomorrow’s manna must be collected tomorrow morning. Tuesday, July 24, 2018
Today's Passage : Today's Passage:Subjecta:David Avenges the Gibeonites Bible Verse:2 Samuel 21:1-14 "There was a famine during David’s reign that lasted for three years, so David asked the Lord about it. And the Lord said, “The famine has come because Saul and his family are guilty of murdering the Gibeonites.” So the king summoned the Gibeonites. They were not part of Israel but were all that was left of the nation of the Amorites. The people of Israel had sworn not to kill them, but Saul, in his zeal for Israel and Judah, had tried to wipe them out. David asked them, “What can I do for you? How can I make amends so that you will bless the Lord’s people again?” “Well, money can’t settle this matter between us and the family of Saul,” the Gibeonites replied. “Neither can we demand the life of anyone in Israel.” “What can I do then?” David asked. “Just tell me and I will do it for you.” Then they replied, “It was Saul who planned to destroy us, to keep us from having any place at all in the territory of Israel. So let seven of Saul’s sons be handed over to us, and we will execute them before the Lord at Gibeon, on the mountain of the Lord.” “All right,” the king said, “I will do it.” The king spared Jonathan’s son Mephibosheth, who was Saul’s grandson, because of the oath David and Jonathan had sworn before the Lord. But he gave them Saul’s two sons Armoni and Mephibosheth, whose mother was Rizpah daughter of Aiah. He also gave them the five sons of Saul’s daughter Merab.The men of Gibeon executed them on the mountain before the Lord. So all seven of them died together at the beginning of the barley harvest. . . . Then the king ordered that they bury the bones in the tomb of Kish, Saul’s father, at the town of Zela in the land of Benjamin. After that, God ended the famine in the land." Message:
The Gibeonites were an odd crowd. During the period when God ordered the Israelites to wipe out the inhabitants of Canaan, they had tricked Joshua into making a treaty with them. (Joshua 9.) But Joshua had given his word, even under false pretenses, so he swore to keep his oath not to kill them. (Joshua 9:19–21.)
There is no account of Saul killing Gibeonites; it is first mentioned in today’s Scripture.

There is a constant question, over the course of history, as to whether a person must pay for the “sins of the fathers.” As a matter of criminal law, modern jurisprudence clearly says “no.” We cannot be held guilty of a crime another person has committed, including a parent. In fact, there is only one crime defined in the U.S. Constitution—treason— and concerning it, the Constitution states: “no Attainder of Treason shall work Corruption of Blood.”
Christian doctrine seems to have one foot in each camp. God does not judge us for the sins of others. In fact, we are commanded to love God more than our parents (Luke 14:26), even abandoning our duties towards them to follow Him, if we are called (Luke 9:59-62). Yet, corruption of blood is the foundation of Christianity; one might say that we pay the price of Adam’s sin, although another might say that we are judged, not for Adam’s sin, but for our own, even though we inherit the tendency.
Well, this is an interesting theological question; but do not fail to see, I have wandered into one of those meaningless questions that do nothing but cause quibbling. Neither our own salvation, nor that of anyone else, rests on what we believe about “corruption of blood.” We sin, we confess, and God is faithful to forgive. That is what we need to know.
