Friend,
If you do not already have a habit of gathering daily manna the first thing in the morning (we can look at the example given to us in Exodus 16 and find the pattern for collecting daily manna), make it a habit. Establish your life and your schedule to allow you the necessary time to do your daily collection first thing every morning to give you the strength to make it through the day. And remember that today’s manna will not be sufficient for tomorrow; tomorrow’s manna must be collected tomorrow morning. Wednesday, July 11, 2018
Today's Passage : Today's Passage:Subjecta:For a Little While Longer, I am With You Bible Verse:John 7:32-39 (NASB) "The Pharisees heard the crowd muttering these things about Him, and the chief priests and the Pharisees sent officers to seize Him. Therefore Jesus said, “For a little while longer I am with you, then I go to Him who sent Me. You will seek Me, and will not find Me; and where I am, you cannot come.” The Jews then said to one another, “Where does this man intend to go that we will not find Him? He is not intending to go to the Dispersion among the Greeks, and teach the Greeks, is He? What is this statement that He said, ‘You will seek Me, and will not find Me; and where I am, you cannot come’?” Now on the last day, the great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, “If anyone is thirsty, let him come to Me and drink. He who believes in Me, as the Scripture said, ‘From his innermost being will flow rivers of living water.’” But this He spoke of the Spirit, whom those who believed in Him were to receive; for the Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified. Much of this passage is repetitive of early passages in John, but he introduces two new concepts. First, Jesus once again teaches something that the crowd cannot currently comprehend: that he is going to go somewhere they cannot come. He is speaking for his words to be repeated or read after his death. He will go to heaven and also visit the souls of those who died before his coming, after his death but before his final ascension.
The crowd naturally believe he is saying that he will depart Israel. Notice that they already speak of the Diaspora, the scattering of Jews around the world.
Secondly, John informs us that the Holy Spirit, who was to dwell with those baptized in Christ after his final departure, would come only after he had been “glorified,” i.e. had died and risen again. We can receive the Holy Spirit, then, only because of Christ’s death and resurrection; although the Spirit has descended on Christ (when he was baptized by John the Baptist), his coming to us will effectively continue God’s presence among humanity. He will replace Christ, in a sense.
Although nobody had seen God prior to Christ, God will not leave us again, but will continue to dwell on earth, known only to those who accept him through their belief in Christ.
Meditation : Prayer : The Lord bless us and keep us. The Lord make his face to shine upon us, and be gracious unto us. The Lord lift up his countenance upon us, and give us peace, this day and evermore,..Amen |
