Dear
Friend,
If you do not already have a habit of gathering daily manna the first thing in the morning (we can look at the example given to us in Exodus 16 and find the pattern for collecting daily manna), make it a habit. Establish your life and your schedule to allow you the necessary time to do your daily collection first thing every morning to give you the strength to make it through the day. And remember that today’s manna will not be sufficient for tomorrow; tomorrow’s manna must be collected tomorrow morning.

Today's Passage : Today's Passage:Subjecta:Shimei Curses David
Bible Verse:2 Samuel 16:5-14 (NLT)
"As King David came to Bahurim, a man came out of the village cursing them. It was Shimei son of Gera, from the same clan as Saul’s family. He threw stones at the king and the king’s officers and all the mighty warriors who surrounded him.
“Get out of here, you murderer, you scoundrel!” he shouted at David. “The Lord is paying you back for all the bloodshed in Saul’s clan. You stole his throne, and now the Lord has given it to your son Absalom. At last you will taste some of your own medicine, for you are a murderer!”
“Why should this dead dog curse my lord the king?” Abishai son of Zeruiah demanded. “Let me go over and cut off his head!”
“No!” the king said. “Who asked your opinion, you sons of Zeruiah! If the Lord has told him to curse me, who are you to stop him?”
T
hen David said to Abishai and to all his servants, “My own son is trying to kill me. Doesn’t this relative of Saul have even more reason to do so? Leave him alone and let him curse, for the Lord has told him to do it. And perhaps the Lord will see that I am being wronged and will bless me because of these curses today.”
So David and his men continued down the road, and Shimei kept pace with them on a nearby hillside, cursing and throwing stones and dirt at David. The king and all who were with him grew weary along the way, so they rested when they reached the Jordan River."
Message:
This little anecdote is not without its humorous side. David and his retinue — all of whom had proven their skill and willingness to engage in horrendous slaughter — riding down the road, while some peasant runs along beside them, throwing dirt and stones at the king and calling him names.
It is also nice to see David's forbearance; Shimei does have a point about David being a “man of blood.” My dachshund once attacked a Rottweiler who was walking down the street in front of our house, with much the same effect — he was an inch from death, but the great dog paid him no heed; he just ambled along with my little dog barking and jumping up trying to bite his ears.
David’s forbearance belies the curse. His actions (or inaction) speak louder than Shimei’s words. If David were truly bloody-minded, he would slay Shimei. In this respect, Shimei is lucky that David is not Elisha! (See 2 Kings 2:23-25.)
Meditation
:
Prayer :
Now, to God the Father, who first loved us, and made us accepted in the Beloved; to God the Son, who loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood; to God the Holy Ghost, who sheddeth the love of God abroad in our hearts, be all love and all glory in time and to all eternity.....Amen
