Dear
Friend,
If you do not already have a habit of gathering daily manna the first thing in the morning (we can look at the example given to us in Exodus 16 and find the pattern for collecting daily manna), make it a habit. Establish your life and your schedule to allow you the necessary time to do your daily collection first thing every morning to give you the strength to make it through the day. And remember that today’s manna will not be sufficient for tomorrow; tomorrow’s manna must be collected tomorrow morning.

Today's Passage : Today's Passage:Subjecta:Many Disciples Turn Away
Bible Verse:John 6:60-71 (ESV)
"When many of his disciples heard it, they said, “This is a hard saying; who can listen to it?”
But Jesus, knowing in himself that his disciples were grumbling about this, said to them, “Do you take offense at this? Then what if you were to see the Son of Man ascending to where he was before? It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh is no help at all.
fishers of men, Simon Peter Andrew
The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and life. But there are some of you who do not believe.” (For Jesus knew from the beginning who those were who did not believe, and who it was who would betray him.) And he said, “This is why I told you that no one can come to me unless it is granted him by the Father.”
After this many of his disciples turned back and no longer walked with him. So Jesus said to the twelve, “Do you want to go away as well?”
Simon Peter answered him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life, and we have believed, and have come to know, that you are the Holy One of God.”
Jesus answered them, “Did I not choose you, the twelve? And yet one of you is a devil.” He spoke of Judas the son of Simon Iscariot, for he, one of the twelve, was going to betray him."

Notes on the Scripture
T
he reference in the first sentence is to Christ stating that his disciples would “eat his flesh” and “drink his blood.” This drives away many of his disciples. (“Disciples” is used here in the broader sense, to indicate the people who had followed Him across the Sea of Galilee from the place where He fed the 5,000. The twelves apostles are unfazed, and Peter speaks for them.) Indeed, you can see how sorely such a statement, which appears to border on cannibalism, would be difficult to accept. We know that He meant a symbolic feast, but they didn’t. Only those who had completely abandoned themselves to belief in Him were able to accept, on faith, that such a saying would prove to be righteous.
We also learn that Christ was aware, from the first, that Judas was destined to betray Him. John, more than the other gospels, concentrates on Christ’s early knowledge of his fate, and how his death and resurrection would eventually happen.
We at Daily Prayer often bemoan the marked decline in Christian belief in the Western world, especially the aggressive and angry atheism so often evident in the media. But the decline in faith also appears among those who consider themselves Christians. We must look to ourselves, for it is there we have the most control.
Building faith is difficult and time-consuming. We have to do it every day if we want to come closer to Christ, and specifically, read and reread passage such as that from John, above, taking time to understand and reflect upon it.
When people are shocked by their misinterpretation of Christ’s words, He does not assuage their fear by saying, “I am only speaking symbolically.” Rather, if they think He is talking about actually eating Him, He lets them think it. Instead, His argument is: “It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing.”

Prayer :
Now all glory to God, who is able to keep me from falling away and will bring me with great joy into his glorious presence without a single fault. All glory to him who alone is God, our Savior through Jesus Christ our Lord. All glory, majesty, power, and authority are his before all time, and in the present, and beyond all time,.....Amen
