Friend,
If you do not already have a habit of gathering daily manna the first thing in the morning (we can look at the example given to us in Exodus 16 and find the pattern for collecting daily manna), make it a habit. Establish your life and your schedule to allow you the necessary time to do your daily collection first thing every morning to give you the strength to make it through the day. And remember that today’s manna will not be sufficient for tomorrow; tomorrow’s manna must be collected tomorrow morning. Saturday, June 23, 2018
Today's Passage : Today's Passage:Subjecta:David Escapes from Jerusalem Bible Verse:2 Samuel 15:13-22 (NLT) "[By stealth and conspiracy, Absalom has made his way to Hebron and declared that he is King of Israel.] A messenger soon arrived in Jerusalem to tell David, “All Israel has joined Absalom in a conspiracy against you!” “Then we must flee at once, or it will be too late!” David urged his men. “Hurry! If we get out of the city before Absalom arrives, both we and the city of Jerusalem will be spared from disaster.” “We are with you,” his advisers replied. “Do what you think is best.” So the king and all his household set out at once. He left no one behind except ten of his concubines to look after the palace. The king and all his people set out on foot, pausing at the last house to let all the king’s men move past to lead the way. There were 600 men from Gath who had come with David, along with the king’s bodyguard. Then the king turned and said to Ittai, a leader of the men from Gath, “Why are you coming with us? Go on back to King Absalom, for you are a guest in Israel, a foreigner in exile. You arrived only recently, and should I force you today to wander with us? I don’t even know where we will go. Go on back and take your kinsmen with you, and may the Lord show you his unfailing love and faithfulness.” But Ittai said to the king, “I vow by the Lord and by your own life that I will go wherever my lord the king goes, no matter what happens—whether it means life or death.” David replied, “All right, come with us.” So Ittai and all his men and their families went along." Message:
And so, once again, David finds himself on the run with a tiny army from a “man who would be king.” Absalom has become the new Saul. But David will not involve a foreigner. Perhaps he knows God’s commandment to the Jews, to love the “stranger” (foreigner living among them) as God loved the Hebrews. (Deuteronomy 10:17-19.) Or perhaps God has simply put this into David’s heart.
But in this case, the foreigner seems to love and obey the Lord better than the great mass of Israelites, for Ittai will follow the Lord’s anointed king.
Meditation : Prayer : I dedicate this day to you, mighty God. I pray that your Spirit will lift me up this day, and that your face may shine upon me all the day long, that I might do your will and lead a new life in Christ, reborn in the Spirit.....Amen |
