Friend,
If you do not already have a habit of gathering daily manna the first thing in the morning (we can look at the example given to us in Exodus 16 and find the pattern for collecting daily manna), make it a habit. Establish your life and your schedule to allow you the necessary time to do your daily collection first thing every morning to give you the strength to make it through the day. And remember that today’s manna will not be sufficient for tomorrow; tomorrow’s manna must be collected tomorrow morning. Wednesday, February 21, 2018
Today's Passage : Today's Passage:Subjecta:Samuel’s Farewell (continued) Bible Verse:1 Samuel 12:6-25 (NLT) "Then Samuel said to the people, “It is the Lord who raised up Moses and Aaron, and who brought your fathers up from the land of Egypt. Now therefore, stand still, that I may reason with you before the Lord concerning all the righteous acts of the Lord which He did to you and your fathers: When Jacob had gone into Egypt, and your fathers cried out to the Lord, then the Lord sent Moses and Aaron, who brought your fathers out of Egypt and made them dwell in this place. King David icon King David “Now therefore, here is the king whom you have chosen and whom you have desired. And take note, the Lord has set a king over you. If you fear the Lord and serve Him and obey His voice, and do not rebel against the commandment of the Lord, then both you and the king who reigns over you will continue following the Lord your God. However, if you do not obey the voice of the Lord, but rebel against the commandment of the Lord, then the hand of the Lord will be against you, as it was against your fathers. Now therefore, stand and see this great thing which the Lord will do before your eyes: Is today not the wheat harvest? I will call to the Lord, and He will send thunder and rain, that you may perceive and see that your wickedness is great, which you have done in the sight of the Lord, in asking a king for yourselves.” So Samuel called to the Lord, and the Lord sent thunder and rain that day; and all the people greatly feared the Lord and Samuel. And all the people said to Samuel, “Pray for your servants to the Lord your God, that we may not die; for we have added to all our sins the evil of asking a king for ourselves.” Then Samuel said to the people, “Do not fear. You have done all this wickedness; yet do not turn aside from following the Lord, but serve the Lord with all your heart. And do not turn aside; for then you would go after empty things which cannot profit or deliver, for they are nothing.” " Message:
Samuel reminds the people that God gave them a king only because they demanded one, out of fear of the Ammonite army. But in the past, it was not the absence of a king, but the worship of idols and other sinful behavior that had resulted in conquest by foreign nations. This demand for a king is unnecessary and shows a lack of faith in God’s promises, because nothing has really changed. God will still protect them as long as they keep their covenant with Him; but if they (or the king) do not, the king will not be able to protect them.
As a sign that their future is in God’s hand, not those of an earthly king, Samuel calls up a great storm. Still, despite the warning, Samuel tells them that God will forgive their lack of faith if they serve him faithfully; the covenant has not been breached. Or more accurately, the covenant has been breached, but God has forgiven Israel. In effect, He has renewed His covenant with them; if they will follow Him with their full hearts and not seek after “empty things,” He will continue to protect them.
Meditation : Prayer : God our Father, and our Lord Jesus Christ, and Spirit of God amidst us, direct our way unto you. Make us to increase and abound in love one toward another, and toward all men, even as we do toward you; to the end we may establish our hearts unblameable in holiness before you, even our Father, at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ with all his saints.....Amen |
