Dear
Friend,
If you do not already have a habit of gathering daily manna the first thing in the morning (we can look at the example given to us in Exodus 16 and find the pattern for make it a habit. Establish your life and your schedule to allow you the necessary time to do your daily collection first thing every morning to give you the strength to make it through the day. And remember that today’s manna will not be sufficient for tomorrow; tomorrow’s manna must be collected tomorrow morning.

Today's Passage : Today's Passage:The Tower of Babel
BibleVerseGenesis 11:1-9 (ESV)
"Now the whole earth had one language and the same words. And as people migrated from the east, they found a plain in the land of Shinar and settled there. And they said to one another, “Come, let us make bricks, and burn them thoroughly.” And they had brick for stone, and bitumen for mortar.
Then they said, “Come, let us build ourselves a city and a tower with its top in the heavens, and let us make a name for ourselves, lest we be dispersed over the face of the whole earth.” And the Lord came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of man had built. And the Lord said, “Behold, they are one people, and they have all one language, and this is only the beginning of what they will do. And nothing that they propose to do will now be impossible for them.
Come, let us go down and there confuse their language, so that they may not understand one another's speech.” So the Lord dispersed them from there over the face of all the earth, and they left off building the city. Therefore its name was called Babel, because there the Lord confused the language of all the earth. And from there the Lord dispersed them over the face of all the earth.
"
Message:
We have discussed the meaning of the Tower of Babel before, and will again, but today I want to use it as an opportunity to discuss the Bible’s secular historicity.
Most of the people who read Daily Prayer believe in the infallibility of the Bible, i.e. that it is fully truthful, the very Word of God. But there is a lot of room for different interpretation inside the rubric of infallibility. Opinions range from true fundamentalism, a belief that every word of the Bible is literally factually true, to the opposite extreme of what one might call interpretationism: those who believe that the Bible is largely myth and metaphor, but absolutely true as a moral and religious document. And there are many somewhere in-between these two extremes.
But time and time again, we have been shown that the Bible has more historical foundation than atheists want to admit. And specifically, there has arisen a fair amount of archeological evidence that a tower like the Tower of Babel existed and that it matched the description given in Genesis.
Today, Babylonia is only a pile of broken mud-brick buildings and debris. The site is located in modern-day Iraq, in Mesopotamia — the fertile plain of land between the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers where one of the earliest-known civilizations sprouted around 3500 BC.
Tower of Babel - Ziggurat of Etemenanki
The Tower of Etemenanki
One of the great civilizations that lived in Mesopotamia was Babylonia. Its monumental city, one of the great cities of the ancient world, was Babylon. Like many cities of the time, it contained a “ziggurat,” a temple in the shape of a stepped pyramid, honoring a particular god. These were constructed as stated in Genesis, using mud bricks, because the area has very little usable stone. These bricks were made of mud mixed with straw and dried in the sun. They were held together with bitumen, which is found in Iran and was widely imported to Mesopotamia for use as mortar. Even today, bitumen is sometimes called tar, because it is a black smelly viscous liquid when warmed, but hardens as it cools. (Technically, tar is a distillate from coal whereas bitumen is a naturally-occurring form of petroleum.
Archaeologists have found, in the ruins of Babylon, a square earthen embankment 300 feet square, most likely the foundation of an enormous ziggurat dedicated to the Babylonian god Marduk. A reasonable estimate is that the tower would have stood about 300 feet high. As a point of comparison, the Home Insurance Building in Chicago, which many people consider to be the first skyscraper, stood 138 feet in height.

Prayer :
May the God of hope fill me and all of us with the joy and peace that comes from believing, so that we may abound in hope, by the power of the Holy Spirit.
Amen.
