If you do not already have a habit of gathering daily manna the first thing in the morning (we can look at the example given to us in Exodus 16 and find the pattern for make it a habit. Establish your life and your schedule to allow you the necessary time to do your daily collection first thing every morning to give you the strength to make it through the day. And remember that today’s manna will not be sufficient for tomorrow; tomorrow’s manna must be collected tomorrow morning. Saturday, August 31, 2024
Today's Passage : Today's Passage :One of You Will Betray Me Bible Verse:John 13:21-30 (ESV) "After saying these things, Jesus was troubled in his spirit, and testified, “Truly, truly, I say to you, one of you will betray me.” The disciples looked at one another, uncertain of whom he spoke. One of his disciples, whom Jesus loved, was reclining at table at Jesus‘ side, so Simon Peter motioned to him to ask Jesus of whom he was speaking. So that disciple, leaning back against Jesus, said to him, “Lord, who is it?” Jesus answered, “It is he to whom I will give this morsel of bread when I have dipped it.” So when he had dipped the morsel, he gave it to Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot. Then after he had taken the morsel, Satan entered into him. Jesus said to him, “What you are going to do, do quickly.” Now no one at the table knew why he said this to him. Some thought that, because Judas had the moneybag, Jesus was telling him, “Buy what we need for the feast,” or that he should give something to the poor. So, after receiving the morsel of bread, he immediately went out. And it was night. " Message:
In this poignant scene, Jesus identifies Judas, one of his beloved followers, as the person who will betray Him to the Sanhedrin and give Him over to death. Judas has already become corrupted; John has earlier told us that Judas steals from the communal treasury. Jesus knows what is about to happen, and tells Judas to “make it snappy.”
To identify his betrayer, Jesus gives him a piece of bread. This may seem like an odd way to identify someone, until you reflect that very soon, the last supper will occur. Jesus will make the bread of the meal a symbol of his body. By giving a piece of bread to Judas, Jesus is symbolically handing over his body to him; not in the holiness of the last supper, but so that Judas may destroy it. For only by the death of his body will Jesus achieve his victory over death.
Judas runs out into the night. Since the last two chapters have been filled with the image of darkness as the plight of the sinful, lost soul, and light as salvation, Judas‘ running out of the room and into the darkness symbolizes that he has given himself to sin.
Meditation : Prayer : I pray that I may be blessed every step of my path this day by the great God of light. May your sun shine upon me; as the moon moves the tide, may your Spirit move my emotions with every grace and magic; may my heart sing with the voice of your angels and my hearth be warm; and may this and every blessed day You have given me be filled with joy...........Amen |
