If you do not already have a habit of gathering daily manna the first thing in the morning (we can look at the example given to us in Exodus 16 and find the pattern for make it a habit. Establish your life and your schedule to allow you the necessary time to do your daily collection first thing every morning to give you the strength to make it through the day. And remember that today’s manna will not be sufficient for tomorrow; tomorrow’s manna must be collected tomorrow morning. Wednesday, May 15, 2024
Today's Passage : Today's Passage :Samson [2] — Samson and the Lion Bible Verse:Judges 14:1-7 (ESV) "Samson went down to Timnah, and at Timnah he saw one of the daughters of the Philistines. Then he came up and told his father and mother, “I saw one of the daughters of the Philistines at Timnah. Now get her for me as my wife.” But his father and mother said to him, “Is there not a woman among the daughters of your relatives, or among all our people, that you must go to take a wife from the uncircumcised Philistines?” But Samson said to his father, “Get her for me, for she is right in my eyes.” His father and mother did not know that it was from the Lord, for he was seeking an opportunity against the Philistines. At that time the Philistines ruled over Israel. Then Samson went down with his father and mother to Timnah, and they came to the vineyards of Timnah. And behold, a young lion came toward him roaring. Then the Spirit of the Lord rushed upon him, and although he had nothing in his hand, he tore the lion in pieces as one tears a young goat. But he did not tell his father or his mother what he had done. Then he went down and talked with the woman, and she was right in Samson's eyes. " Message:
The story jumps from Samson’s birth to find him a young man, ready to take a wife. We are to assume that his mother obeyed the angel in Judges 13; she drank no wine and ate no unclean food while she was pregnant, and has not allowed Samson to do so. Even more important to Samson’s story, his hair has never been cut.

The angel had told Samson’s mother that he would lead Israel in defeating the Philistines, who had conquered Israel forty years prior; however, the angel did not mention Samson’s most famous attribute: his enormous physical strength. Here we see it demonstrated. Samson tears an attacking lion apart with his bare hands.
In addition to simply demonstrating his strength, Samson’s killing of the lion has several implications. First, the lion was the apex predator in Canaan, the “king of beasts”; Samson’s killing one barehanded foreshadows his single-handed destruction of the Philistines. As he is mightier than the mightiest beast, he will prove to be mightier than the greatest king.
Second, the dead lion sets up the story we will read next, including Samson and the bees and Samson’s riddle. We will also find out why Samson has demanded that his father get him a Philistine woman to wed.
Meditation : Prayer : May the peace of the Lord Christ go with us, wherever He may send us. May He guide us through the wilderness, protect us through the storm. May He bring us home rejoicing at the wonders He has shown us. May He bring us home rejoicing once again into our doors..Amen |
