Friend,
If you do not already have a habit of gathering daily manna the first thing in the morning (we can look at the example given to us in Exodus 16 and find the pattern for collecting daily manna), make it a habit. Establish your life and your schedule to allow you the necessary time to do your daily collection first thing every morning to give you the strength to make it through the day. And remember that today’s manna will not be sufficient for tomorrow; tomorrow’s manna must be collected tomorrow morning. Friday, September 28, 2018
Today's Passage : Today's Passage:Subjecta:Adam and Christ [1] Bible Verse:Romans 5:12-14 (ESV) "Therefore, just as sin came into the world through one man, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because all sinned — for sin indeed was in the world before the law was given, but sin is not counted where there is no law. Yet death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over those whose sinning was not like the transgression of Adam, who was a type of the one who was to come." Message:
Adam sinned by eating a fruit that God had forbidden him; a fruit from a specific tree, the tree of knowledge of good and evil. God gave him one law, and he broke it; there was one punishment, death, and Adam suffered it. And worse, not only for himself, but for all men.
When Paul says that Adam “was a type of the one who was to come,” he is speaking of Christ. Like Adam, Jesus acted for all men. Where Adam’s actions cursed all men who came after, Christ’s redeemed them from the curse. Of course, even though they were of the same type — their actions affected everyone — there was a fundamental difference between them, also. Since people knew of right and wrong after Adam and had the power to choose, they had to choose Jesus to receive the benefits he offered. The death that came from Adam afflicted all, a baleful birthright; but the life that came from Christ required a choice, to believe in him.
It was Moses who prepared us to make this choice. The law instructed us so that we could “count” our sins. The knowledge of good and evil was, in effect, made into a code of conduct; not to save us, because no child of Adam was able to follow it. Like Adam, every person born chose to disobey God; it is our nature, a curse carried by all of Adam’s descendants.
But the law showed us the path to righteousness, by teaching us about our sinfulness. It therefore prepared us for the coming of Christ, that we might be wise enough to choose Christ, and life, and finally undo the damage that Adam had done. We could find righteousness before God even though our nature drove us away from Him.
Meditation : . Prayer : God our Father, and our Lord Jesus Christ, and Spirit of God amidst us, direct our way unto you. Make us to increase and abound in love one toward another, and toward all men, even as we do toward you; to the end we may establish our hearts unblameable in holiness before you, even our Father, at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ with all his saints...Amen |
