If you do not already have a habit of gathering daily manna the first thing in the morning (we can look at the example given to us in Exodus 16 and find the pattern for collecting daily manna), make it a habit. Establish your life and your schedule to allow you the necessary time to do your daily collection first thing every morning to give you the strength to make it through the day. And remember that today’s manna will not be sufficient for tomorrow; tomorrow’s manna must be collected tomorrow morning. Wednesday, August 1, 2018
Today's Passage : Today's Passage:Subjecta:David’s Song of Praise (Part 2) Bible Verse:2 Samuel 22:38-51 "“I chased my enemies and destroyed them; I did not stop until they were conquered. I consumed them; I struck them down so they did not get up; they fell beneath my feet. You have armed me with strength for the battle; you have subdued my enemies under my feet. “You placed my foot on their necks. I have destroyed all who hated me. They looked for help, but no one came to their rescue. They even cried to the Lord, but he refused to answer. I ground them as fine as the dust of the earth; I trampled them in the gutter like dirt. “You gave me victory over my accusers. You preserved me as the ruler over nations; people I don’t even know now serve me. Foreign nations cringe before me; as soon as they hear of me, they submit. They all lose their courage and come trembling from their strongholds. “The Lord lives! Praise to my Rock! May God, the Rock of my salvation, be exalted! He is the God who pays back those who harm me; he brings down the nations under me and delivers me from my enemies. You hold me safe beyond the reach of my enemies; you save me from violent opponents. “For this, O Lord, I will praise you among the nations; I will sing praises to your name. You give great victories to your king; you show unfailing love to your anointed, to David and all his descendants forever.”" Message:
This song of praise is almost shocking to the modern consciousness. David praises God because He has allowed David’s army to conquer others, pounding and trampling them “in the gutter like dirt.” He praises God because “foreign nations cringe before me.” But we must remember, it was God’s intention that Israel, and the Law of Moses, fail. It is part of God’s plan for David to be proud in conquest. For David’s great military victories will turn to ashes as soon as his son, Solomon, is dead. The Law will ultimately be seen as a curse. (E.g., Galatians 3:10-12.)
There are churches where this psalm will be read, today, as if it is Christian doctrine. There is a hazard in reading the Old Testament without understanding the New!
Meditation : . Prayer : May the Almighty and merciful Lord graciously hear me, pardon and deliver me from all my sins, confirm and strengthen me in all goodness, and bring me to everlasting life; through my Savior, Jesus Christ......Amen |
