If you do not already have a habit of gathering daily manna the first thing in the morning (we can look at the example given to us in Exodus 16 and find the pattern for collecting daily manna), make it a habit. Establish your life and your schedule to allow you the necessary time to do your daily collection first thing every morning to give you the strength to make it through the day. And remember that today’s manna will not be sufficient for tomorrow; tomorrow’s manna must be collected tomorrow morning. Wednesday, February 28, 2018
Today's Passage : Today's Passage:Subjecta:Saul’s Disobedience Bible Verse:1 Samuel 13:7-14 (NLT) "(Saul, having just been made king, immediately cobbled a little army of 3,000 men together and attacked a Philistine outpost. The Philistines responded by raising a huge army; now Saul and his men are hiding in caves and cisterns to avoid them.) Meanwhile, Saul stayed at Gilgal, and his men were trembling with fear. Saul waited there seven days for Samuel, as Samuel had instructed him earlier, but Samuel still didn’t come. Saul realized that his troops were rapidly slipping away. So he demanded, “Bring me the burnt offering and the peace offerings!” And Saul sacrificed the burnt offering himself. Just as Saul was finishing with the burnt offering, Samuel arrived. Saul went out to meet and welcome him, but Samuel said, “What is this you have done?” Saul replied, “I saw my men scattering from me, and you didn’t arrive when you said you would, and the Philistines are at Micmash ready for battle. So I said, ‘The Philistines are ready to march against us at Gilgal, and I haven’t even asked for the Lord’s help!’ So I felt compelled to offer the burnt offering myself before you came.” “How foolish!” Samuel exclaimed. “You have not kept the command the Lord your God gave you. Had you kept it, the Lord would have established your kingdom over Israel forever. But now your kingdom must end, for the Lord has sought out a man after his own heart. The Lord has already appointed him to be the leader of his people, because you have not kept the Lord’s command.” " Message:
amuel’s words about Saul being disobedient refers to something he had previously told Saul: “Go down ahead of me to Gilgal. I will surely come down to you to sacrifice burnt offerings and fellowship offerings, but you must wait seven days until I come to you and tell you what you are to do.” (1 Samuel 10:8) But Saul had taken matters into his own hands, with dire consequences. Instead of waiting for Samuel to come tell him what to do, Saul has taken matters into his own hands.
Samuel is furious at Saul’s rash and poorly planned actions, for Saul has taken matters into his own hands rather than trusting in His prophet. Israel’s new king has gotten off to a bad start and Samuel tells him that the result will be dire. Not only will his kingdom fail to endure, but also, Samuel prophesies that God has already picked out someone to replace him as king.
In the meantime, Saul is stuck with a tiny band of men, trying to evade the great Philistine army hunting for them. And things are about to get even worse.
The great lesson here is one which the Bible teaches us again and again. Do we believe what the Bible says, or what we think? Do we trust in Christ, or in our own experience and desires? Do we let our fears and desires instruct us in our actions, or do we take God’s Word at face value, trusting only in God?
Meditation : Prayer : May God the Father bless us; may Christ take care of us; the Holy Ghost enlighten us all the days of our life. The Lord be our defender and keeper of body and soul, both now and for ever, to the ages of ages....Amen |
