If you do not already have a habit of gathering daily manna the first thing in the morning (we can look at the example given to us in Exodus 16 and find the pattern for make it a habit. Establish your life and your schedule to allow you the necessary time to do your daily collection first thing every morning to give you the strength to make it through the day. And remember that today’s manna will not be sufficient for tomorrow; tomorrow’s manna must be collected tomorrow morning. Thursday, January 30, 2025
Today's Passage : Today's Passage :Paul Defends Himself to the Crowd in Jerusalem [1] Bible Verse:Acts 21:37-40, 22:1 (ESV) "As Paul was about to be brought into the barracks, he said to the tribune, “May I say something to you?” And he said, “Do you know Greek? Are you not the Egyptian, then, who recently stirred up a revolt and led the four thousand men of the Assassins out into the wilderness?” Paul replied, “I am a Jew, from Tarsus in Cilicia, a citizen of no obscure city. I beg you, permit me to speak to the people.” And when he had given him permission, Paul, standing on the steps, motioned with his hand to the people. And when there was a great hush, he addressed them in the Hebrew language [probably Aramaic], saying: “Brothers and fathers, hear the defense that I now make before you.” " Message:
The ignorance of the commander is so startling it is humorous. Not only does he think Paul is Moses, but he also calls Moses a “terrorist.” Then we discover that the crowd is similarly ignorant, for they are surprised to hear Paul speaking Aramaic, the everyday language of the Hebrews.
The commander has arrested, and the crowd have tried to kill, a man they know nothing about. Where the truth is not known, hysteria and ignorant prejudice rule.
Dove of Peace
We, as Christians, face the same problem today. Anybody can call himself a “Christian”; the media love to broadcast ridiculous and even repugnant quotes and actions by people calling themselves Christian. Members of several churches will even picket funerals—such as the funerals of the people killed in the Arizona shooting of Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, where they carried signs reading “THANK GOD FOR THE SHOOTER -- 6 DEAD!” Some celebrities make a specialty of degrading Christ by picking out these incidents and spreading them as anti-Christian propaganda.
People are driven away from Christ, become less willing to hear the Gospel, when their ears are saturated by such news. And who can blame them? But when they know the truth, they are like the commander and crowd when they hear Paul speak. Simply knowing that Paul speaks Aramaic quiets the crowd down. Truth defeats mob ignorance.
Christ told us, “Let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and glorify your Father who is in heaven.” (Matthew 5:16) We are responsible for telling the world about true Christian belief and the good works that have been done in Christ’s name. This very day, untold charitable works are being done by Christians all over the world. We must not shrink from telling them; it is not bragging. It is something that Christ himself instructed us to do.
Meditation : Prayer : Oh God, hold me in the palm of your hand. I pray that you will mold me into what you want me to be. May I joyfully fill the role you have given to me and feel your peace deep in my soul, today and always,.....Amen |
