If you do not already have a habit of gathering daily manna the first thing in the morning (we can look at the example given to us in Exodus 16 and find the pattern for make it a habit. Establish your life and your schedule to allow you the necessary time to do your daily collection first thing every morning to give you the strength to make it through the day. And remember that today’s manna will not be sufficient for tomorrow; tomorrow’s manna must be collected tomorrow morning. Wednesday, January 15, 2025
Today's Passage : Today's Passage :The Riot in Ephesus [3] Bible Verse:Acts 19:35-41 (ESV) "And when the town clerk had quieted the crowd, he said, “Men of Ephesus, who is there who does not know that the city of the Ephesians is temple keeper of the great Artemis, and of the sacred stone that fell from the sky? Seeing then that these things cannot be denied, you ought to be quiet and do nothing rash. For you have brought these men here who are neither sacrilegious nor blasphemers of our goddess. If therefore Demetrius and the craftsmen with him have a complaint against anyone, the courts are open, and there are proconsuls. Let them bring charges against one another. But if you seek anything further, it shall be settled in the regular assembly. For we really are in danger of being charged with rioting today, since there is no cause that we can give to justify this commotion.” And when he had said these things, he dismissed the assembly." Roman law and order saves both the Christians and the Jews in Ephesus. It is an ironic moment, because just as the mob fear, the words spoken by Paul ultimately will destroy the magnificent Temple of Artemis; in 400 A.D. a Christian emperor will ban worship of Artemis, and the Temple—one of the Seven Wonders of the World—will be pulled down by mobs of people who will loot the very marble, until nothing is left standing except a single forlorn column — which can still be seen today in the modern City of Ephesus.
It is interesting to see Christianity beginning to roll like a huge wave westward across the Roman world. Ephesus lay right on the border between Asia and Europe. We learn that the site must have been chosen as a pagan holy place because of a meteor strike — “the sacred stone that fell from the sky.” And now the words of a poor tentmaker will eclipse a flaming meteor, for the living God is with him.
Meditation : Prayer : I bind myself to you this day, oh Christ, in your truth and in your sacrifice. I give to you my anxiety and my fear, my depression and my doubt, for you have promised to take them if we only ask; and I take upon myself your burden, for it is light and your way is gentle.
