Dear Friend,

If you do not already have a habit of gathering daily manna the first thing in the morning (we can look at the example given to us in Exodus 16 and find the pattern for make it a habit. Establish your life and your schedule to allow you the necessary time to do your daily collection first thing every morning to give you the strength to make it through the day. And remember that today’s manna will not be sufficient for tomorrow; tomorrow’s manna must be collected tomorrow morning.

Today's Passage : Today's Passage :Hypocrites: Cups Cleaned on the Outside
Bible Verse:Matthew 23:25-26 (ESV)

"Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you clean the outside of the cup and the plate, but inside they are full of greed and self-indulgence. You blind Pharisee! First clean the inside of the cup and the plate, that the outside also may be clean."

Message: There is an immediate problem the modern reader might have when reading Christ’s criticisms of Pharisaic washing rituals; the Pharisees were cleaner than just about anyone else, and in respect to several of their hygiene laws, we might find ourselves partly on their side! This is especially true with washing their hands before eating or when coming back from the market, not to mention washing their eating and drinking vessels. purity - hands of Christian family One might infer from today’s Scripture, however, that they washed the outside of a drinking cup but not the inside; there we see the split between modern hygiene and ritual washing. Truth be told, we just don’t know exactly what all the Pharisees did or didn’t do, except that they followed hundreds of weird and minute oral laws as their means of becoming righteous before God. These oral laws were not laws written in Scripture; they were rules created by men, albeit intended to interpret the law of Moses. Jesus tears their laws apart by implying a penetrating question. In the eyes of God, which would be better: To drink pure wine from an unclean cup? Or to drink corrupted wine from a clean cup? That's what He is saying here. He is not telling us not to use dirty dishes. He is telling us that being clean on the inside is what will save our souls. Our relationship with God is more important than our relationship with the earth, our souls more important than our bodies. In a word: [B]e not afraid of them that kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. (Matthew 10:28.)
